Respite Care Provider - Foster Care

About the Role

Respite care provides temporary relief for foster care parents responsible for children requiring a higher level of care. This role allows caregivers to rest, travel, attend appointments, run errands, or recharge while ensuring the safety, stability, and well-being of the children in care.

Respite services may range from 24 hours up to one week, depending on the needs of the foster parent.

Requirements

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct care and supervision for children in respite placement

  • Ensure children are:

    • Safe, nurtured, and supported

    • Fed (breakfast, lunch, and dinner)

    • Attending school and appointments as needed

  • Complete required documentation accurately and in a timely manner

  • Manage day-to-day household responsibilities related to the children

  • Follow agency policies regarding:

    • Discipline

    • Family and youth rights

    • Mandatory reporting (child abuse/neglect)

    • Confidentiality

  • Encourage and engage children in physical and recreational activities as alternatives to passive entertainment

  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized home environment


Qualifications

Applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • Must be a licensed foster parent through DFS or a Nevada-licensed foster care agency

  • Must be at least 21 years of age

  • Experience managing a household and household budget

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with youth and adults

  • Demonstrate nurturing, patient, and compassionate behavior

  • Ability to multitask and prioritize responsibilities

  • Reliable and punctual


Required Documentation & Training

  • Completion of required training prior to providing care, including but not limited to:

    • Just-in-Time Training

    • PRIDE

    • CPI

    • TBRI

  • TB test

  • CPR certification

  • Background check receipt


Regulatory Compliance

  • Follow standards outlined in NAC 424.573 and NRS 424

  • Adhere to requirements in NRS 432.500 and NRS 432.550
